HIG’s patents and inventions are used in the oil and gas industry, the rail industry, and by the Department of Defense.

They include technology for oil water separators, vessel induction heating, magnetized induction, magnetically clasping insulation, frac tank heat exchangers, tank farm assemblies, an argon welding chamber and other patent-pending devices for the production of hot water used by the slick water fracking industry. These systems reduce fuel consumption, man hours, equipment time and greenhouse gas emissions.

The company’s in-house inventive capabilities have moved new ideas from concept to invention to review by patent attorneys with an impressive record of success.

Michael Hoffman
Co-Founder, President, and Chief Inventor
Hydra Industries Group 2014 to Present

I am honored to lead our teams of scientists, engineers, tinkers, manufacturers, fabricators, and thinkers – from the youngest member, 27, receiving his doctorate this summer, to the oldest, over 70, with amazing accomplishments in hydraulics and software design. We seek accomplished polymaths who are experts and unafraid of new technologies, dedicated to finding answers and implementing solutions. We take on problems in heat exchange, insulation, materials, and other fields because our teams love variety and opportunities.

HIG’s inventions are used in various sectors, including oil and gas, rail and the Department of Defense.

They include technology for oil water separators, vessel induction heating, magnetized induction, magnetically clasping insulation, frac tank heat exchangers, round heat exchangers for ponds and reservoirs, tank farm assemblies, portable, industrial boiler rooms and skids, an argon welding chamber and other patent-pending devices for the production of hot water used by the slick water fracking industry. These systems reduce fuel consumption, man hours, equipment time and greenhouse gas emissions.

The company’s in-house inventive capabilities have moved new ideas from concept to completion with an impressive record of success. We have 30 patents pending. Our work includes:

Portable rail tank car heaters bring heat to the rail tank car instead of vice versa. Hydra Wagons reduce switching fees, technicians, operators, and the occasional hot oiler, in addition to saving fuel costs in the heater itself.

We used 100 CPUs to run Ansys computational fluid dynamics and hone a direct heat exchanger for the fracking industry. Our experts, with decades of experience in chemical plant design, calculated the flow in computer models and tweaked it to its highest efficiency. With an amazing combination of a variety of skills and computer meshing finesse, we invented a great heat exchanger.

Another team is focused on phase change material. We are taking a high-temperature cooling system that would ordinarily use a thermo-fluid and using PCM instead. No moving parts, not even liquid flow.

Our fabrication team answered a DOD request for an argon-filled welding chamber that operates with good displacement and quickly. Our concept was proven with hours of diligent testing above and beyond the call of duty. Our fabricators improved the design in the field, on the fly.

Other large-scale projects include rail tank heating and magnetic insulation.
